Dissecting Generation Gaps in Cybersecurity Practices
Main Article Content
Abstract
As the global population ages, Internet use among older adults is increasing, making it important to understand their usage patterns and changes over time. This knowledge can inform strategies to support digital engagement in later life. This article reviews quantitative studies on older adults’ Internet use, focusing on access, skills, and usage types, as well as social inequalities. It also examines links between health and digital behaviors. Using an online survey of 740 participants, the study analyzed age differences in security practices such as software updates, password creation, device protection, and monitoring. Results show older adults update less but create stronger passwords and display proactive awareness. Gender had no effect, while resilience shaped multiple behaviors. Findings support targeted training and policies.
